Prison Island is simply Paradise on Earth. One of Zanzibar Archipelago's best known small islands, lying 3 1/2 miles northwest of Zanzibar's Stone Town and reachable by a 20-minute boat ride, this private island has a fascinating history.

Named after the jail that was built in 1893, the old prison buildings have been meticulously restored to create a modern boutique hotel whilst preserving the historical treasures. The island offers a fresh water swimming pool and leisure and cultural facilities inside the Prison ruins, including restaurantsand bars, and the island is home to the well-known Aldabra Giant Tortoise Sanctuary.
