The Jockey Club Of Kenya

Nairobi

Horse racing has a long 100 year tradition in Kenya with records of racing going as far back as 1904. The first race run was held in Machakos, with the current location at Ngong being laid out in the early 1950's. The Ngong Racecourse is one out of four in the continent.

The course itself is a turf course, with three well designed grandstands and has been described as one of the most beautiful courses in the world. The Jockey Club of Kenya is the governing body for thoroughbred racing.

All racing at the Ngong Racecourse is broadcast live on Citizen TV, with Races also broadcast live on Tellytrack, South Africa's premier Racing Channel.

Horse racing and gambling are delicately intertwined, for the simple fact that all betting proceeds go towards supporting the racing industry, which employs over 2,000 people. Betting at Ngong is done through a Totalisator pool betting system. A pool system basically adds up all the money wagered in a particular race and calculates the odds for each horse. Daily betting is available at the Racecourse for both Football and Horse racing through Phumelelea Gaming & Leisure, the largest provider of betting in South Africa, allowing all bettors at different locations to access the same betting pool.

The minimum bet on the Tote System is Kshs. 40 but the system can take bets of any higher amount that the punter may wish to make. With recent developments, the Ngong Tote will be providing daily betting on UK racing, SA racing and other international courses.

A day at the races not only provides a great family fun day but also creates an opportunity for sponsors to entertain corporate clients/guest and interact with their customers.
